D&A: It’s Not Black or White, It’s Gray presents the life of seventeen-year-old Darren after a car accident takes his parents and leaves him with his sister under the roof of devoted grandparents. Grandmother Mary offers daily comfort and faith while grandfather Edward passes down quiet wisdom from his days as a World War II veteran. Darren studies an ancient Japanese martial arts manual and gains skills that serve him well at a prestigious private school filled with students from wealthy homes. He saves an injured dog he names Gray for its mixed coat and fair spirit that sees people for who they are inside.

At school Darren meets Alena, a pre-med student from a rich family dating arrogant football player Todd. She watches Darren fight off nine attackers to defend his timid friend Steve and the dog, earning the name D Storm from those who witness his stand. Alena ends things with Todd and tends Darren’s wounds, starting a romance built on honest talks and shared music like Bonnie Raitt songs. They keep their relationship private at first to avoid her father’s anger over class differences. Darren works odd jobs and feels shame about his modest home until Alena shows she values his character above all else.
